The Cross Was Not Random: What Jesus Did For You And Why It Matters Today

The cross was intentional

There are moments in life that feel accidental… unexpected… or even unfair. But the cross was not one of them.

It was not a tragic interruption.
It was not a last-minute rescue plan.
It was not history spiraling out of control.

The cross was intentional.

Before the pain, before the nails, before the crown of thorns, there was a plan. A divine decision rooted in love for you and me. And at the center of it all was Jesus Christ, stepping forward, not as a victim, but as a willing Savior.

The cross was necessary. Sin had created a separation between humanity and God, and no human effort could close that gap. But Jesus was never God’s backup plan—He was the plan from the beginning. What happened at the cross was a planned redemption, even foretold in scriptures, revealing a Savior who would suffer so we could be restored.

As 1 Peter 1:19–20 reminds us

“…the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect. He was chosen before the creation of the world, but was revealed in these last times for your sake.”

Before humanity ever fell, God had already prepared a way to redeem, restore, and bring us back to Himself.

What happened at the cross was not only intentional, it was foretold. Scriptures like Isaiah 53 reveal a Savior who would suffer, carry our pain, and restore us to God.

Isaiah 53:4–5 (NIV)

“Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering,
yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted.
But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.”

What looked like loss in the natural was actually a transaction in the spirit.

the cross was foretold

This means something deeply personal for you and me.

When we feel forgotten, the cross reminds us, we were seen.
When we feel unworthy, the cross reminds us, we were chosen.
When we feel lost, the cross reminds us, there has always been a plan for us.

Every wound He carried…
Every drop of blood…
Every moment of suffering…

It all had purpose.

The cross was the meeting place of justice and mercy, where what we deserved met what He was willing to take.
He didn’t just die for us, He exchanged places with us.

This is not just a story of sacrifice… it’s a story of divine exchange.

  • He took what was broken
  • He took what was heavy
  • He took what we could never fix on our own

And in return, He gave us what we could never earn, ” G R A C E “.

No Human Effort Could Close the Gap

Ephesians 2:8–9 (NIV)

“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.”

The cross was not just about what Jesus endured, it was about what you and I would receive.

Let that settle for a moment.

Because when you truly understand that the cross was intentional, everything shifts within you:

  • You know your pain is not ignored
  • You understand your past is not final
  • You got the revelation your life is not without purpose

You were never an afterthought in God’s plan. From the very beginning, you were on His heart.
The cross was not just an event, it was personal. You and I were the reason He chose to endure it.

He saw you then, and He still sees you now.

And what happened at the cross was the beginning of a divine exchange,  one that changed everything forever. “Jesus took everything that separated us from God, so we could step into direct fellowship with the Father.”

The cross was not an accident.
The cross was a deliberate act of love, written with your name and mine in mind.
Thank You, Jesus, for the cross.

Reflection

Take a moment today and ask: “Lord Jesus, help me understand what You did for me at the cross.”

Let this truth reach the places in your heart that still question whether God truly sees you.

  1. Hi Joe,

Your post presents an fresh view on the divine decision of love for everyone and shows that there was always a specific plan for actions to unfold in a certain way that points to a saviour able to bridge the gap for everything to be restored. The cross has a different symbolic meaning to everyone but you’ve been able to bring everything together in a way that most people can understand with the higher intent. The line that stands out most to me is: “When we feel lost, the cross reminds us, there has always been a plan for us.”
